  • Moodle: Adding an RSS Feed Block

This guide will go through how to add a RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) Feed block within Moodle.

*Note that only one feed to a website can displayed at a time for a block. But multiple RSS Blocks can be added for different Feeds/websites.

  1. Go to the Moodle course.
  2. In the top right corner click on "Turn Editing On"
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to "Add Block", click the "Add" drop-down menu.

    1.  Scroll down in the drop-down menu, locate and select "Remote RSS Feed"
  4. The page will referesh and add an empty RSS block to the course. Scroll down the page to find it. 
    1. Click on the gears icon within the "RSS News Feed Block"
    2. Select "Configure Remote news feed block"
  5. Select "Add/edit feeds"
  6. Click on "Add a new feed"
  7. Paste the copied URL link into the line next to "Feed URL
  8. Once the URL link is pasted click on "Save Changes"
  9. Go back to the course's main page.
  10. Scroll down to the page and locate the RSS Feed Block once more. Select the Gears icon within the "Remote News Feed Block"
    1. Click on "Configure Remote news feed block"
  11. Next to "Choose the feeds which you would like to make available in this block" click on the appropriate feed, it will then become highlighted, when selected. Next to "Title:" create a title for the block. Reconfigure settings to personal prefrerences. Once done click on "Save Changes"
  12. Go back to the course's main page and the new RSS Feed block will show articles from the linked website.
