Office of Information Technology Technology Loaner Pool makes temporary loans of computer hardware and other devices to students, faculty and staff. Read below to learn more about the program, how to participate and view items available for loan.

Submit Request to Borrow from the Technology Loaner Pool: Once your request is received, an OIT representative will be in contact to request any additional information. We will confirm loan eligibility, device availability, and arrange for pick up or delivery.

Technology Loaner Pool is a Success: (March 2020-October 2021)

  • 247 device loans have been made to students, faculty and staff.
  • Half of all device loans are going to students.
  • One device is loaned every two days.

These loans are instrumental in ensuring access to devices when individuals wish to try something new before making the commitment to purchase or in a short-term, unanticipated situation when a temporary device loan will bridge the time until a permanent replacement can be secured. The data demonstrates the value and on going commitment to meeting these needs of our community.

Loan Terms:

To help ensure the continued success of this program, please note the following program terms (updated November 2021):
  • Successful loans are based on device availability and prioritized for requests that meet one or more of the following categories:
    • Try-Before-You-Buy:
      • Examples include:
      • Faculty who are new to teaching online and wish to trial a pen touch tablet or other peripheral(s) to create recorded lectures or other instructional material.
      • Faculty who would like their Teaching Assistants (TAs) to trial a new grading procedure using a pen touch tablet.
    • Short-term, Unanticipated Need:
      • Examples include:
      • Staff conducting one-time training or other events.
      • Students who need a laptop device temporarily until their own is repaired or replaced.
    • Student requests based on financial need (additional approvals required).
  • Maximum loan duration is 60 days from the date of loan or end of current term whichever is sooner. Due to high demand, loan renewals or extensions will not be granted.
  • OIT reserves the right to select from available devices for loan.
  • Policy updates are applicable to all existing and future loans.
  • Devices available for loan are listed below. Supplies are limited.

Device Returns:

Please return your loaned device (include power cord, peripherals, and any available original packaging) to the Help Desk, located on 2nd Floor ERC on the Potsdam campus building during regular business hours. Contact Help Desk if you need alternative return arrangements.
