It is vital that distance learning students be equipped with adequate hardware / software / Internet connectivity resources in order to successfully access the digital instruction that is inherent with online learning. The following guide conveys minimum specifications necessary to access online course content at Clarkson University.
The following are minimum recommendations only. Please check with your course instructors for any additional resources that are required to complete the desired course of study.
Clarkson University Distance Learning Students must have access and utilize a:
1) Reliable Ethernet broadband Internet connection (wireless is not recommended!)
Minimum 1 Mbps down/ 512 Kbps up
Reliable, Wired Connections ONLY
Not Supported: Mobile/Wireless/Satellite
2) Desktop Computer or Notebook (meet following min specs)
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or faster processor (or equivalent) for Microsoft XP or Windows 7, Intel i5 (3.2 GHz) or Comparable AMD Processor (Recommended)
Hard Drive: 250 GB
Memory (RAM): 4 GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7
Not Supported: iOs and other tablet devices, Microsoft Windows 8, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris
Monitor: Minimum resolution of 1024 x 768 or larger.
Telephone: Access to dedicated analogue (traditional) telephone line, quality speaker phone or headset strongly recommended.
Not supported: Mobile or VOIP Phones
Microphone: USB Connected Headset, with built-in DSP. Recommended:Logitech USB Headset H530
Speakers: Required if not using a headset.
Software: Microsoft Office Professional
