It is vital that distance learning students be equipped with adequate hardware / software / Internet connectivity resources in order to successfully access the digital instruction that is inherent with online learning. The following guide conveys minimum specifications necessary to access online course content at Clarkson University.
The following are minimum recommendations only. Please check with your course instructors for any additional resources that are required to complete the desired course of study.
Clarkson University Distance Learning Students must have access and utilize a:
1) Reliable high-speed Internet connection
Minimum 1 Mbps down/ 512 Kbps up
2) Desktop Computer or Notebook (meet following min specs)
Processor: Intel Core i5 (minimum) , Intel Core i7 (recommended) or Comparable AMD Processor
Hard Drive: 500 GB 7200 RPM HDD (minimum) or 1 TB SSD
Memory (RAM): 8 GB (minimum) 16 GB (recommended)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10, or Mac OSX 10.14* or later
Not Supported: iOs and other tablet devices, Microsoft Windows 7, 8, Linux and Solaris
Monitor: Minimum resolution of 1024 x 768 or larger.
*If you are considering a Mac, please consider a larger hard-drive to accommodate "dual-boot" into Windows using Boot Camp to allow use of some Windows-only programs that are required for some classes. A Free version of the Windows 10 Student Edition operating system is available to for all students through Microsoft Azure for Teaching. Ask the helpdesk for details.
Microphone: USB Connected Headset are recommended.
Speakers: Required if not using a headset.
Software: Microsoft Office Professional
