1.0 Overview

Physical security requires that computer equipment and data be safeguarded in a way that minimizes the risk of theft, destruction and/or unauthorized disclosure.  

2.0 Purpose

This policy is designed to lay out the steps that must be taken to physically secure computer equipment and data at Clarkson University.

3.0 Scope

This policy applies to all University officials.

4.0 Policy

Physical access to computer equipment and data must be limited to those who have a legitimate business need to have access.  This means that all non-public access computers will be kept behind locked doors at all times.  Public access terminals shall be secured using security cables and padlocks.  Computer cases that are capable of being locked shall always be locked.

Physical data shall be treated in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Data Classification Policy.

Access to the Network Operations Center, the Tape Vault, the Networking Infrastructure, the Equipment Storage Room and Keys shall be governed by their respective Access Policies.
