Orion is available to anyone on campus who has a need for high-performance parallel process computing. Submit your request for access to the Helpdesk (email@example.com) and we’ll provision an account for you.
How to run jobs: use SGE
To ensure that access to system resources are fairly allocated, it’s imperative that all of your jobs be run through the SGE queue. Even the most simple “Hello world” style program can be run through SGE. Processes found running on the compute nodes that were not spawned via SGE will be killed. See some examples in the Roll Documentation. Here is a particularly basic example from the documentation.
Make your own backups
You have 100GB of storage available to you on orion. This space is intended to house your current workload only and it is your responsibility to make sure you have a copy of your data someplace else.
